Episode 307: How To Choose Light In Dark Times

Episode 307: How To Choose Light In Dark Times

Yes, it’s September!  I love fall and as soon as September comes, I feel like fall is here.  There are many things I love about fall, but one of the biggest things is that the change of seasons gives hope that we can make things better.  Like a refresh.

We are living in stressful times and things in this world can seem dark and bleak.  But when we can keep our focus on the light, that is what we will see!  There is hope and it is so refreshing and that hope will transition to all areas of our life.

In this episode, I have 3 tips to help you find hope and renewal in changing seasons.

Tips From The Show

  1. Make getting into the word of God a priority.  I know, pretty obvious.  But sometimes life gets in the way.  What if you made it a goal to read the Bible twice a day?  You might hit it but even if you miss and you get it in once a day….pretty great.  We need to renew our mind in order to refresh for the season ahead.
  2. Realize that the enemy wants to divide us and cause us to stress about everything going on in the world today.
  3. Switch gears and get back into setting new goals and habits and systems that will help us reach them.  Change what you are focused on!  This is why we have programs life Life Balance Method.  Check it out here.

Episode 301: Summer of Joy Week 4, Turning Chaos Into Joy

Episode 301: Summer of Joy Week 4, Turning Chaos Into Joy

This episode is week 4 of our Summer of Joy series!  As we wrap it up, we are talking about finding joy in Chaos.

There are a lot of things that can still our joy and one of the biggest is when we are feeling like we are behind, forgetting things, or just not able to keep up.  When we talk about balance, we believe that it is possible when you put God first, live in community, and follow systems that help you stay in balance.  This recipe works for balance and it also works for joy.  When we look at that last one, we can struggle because it takes time to get a system in place and things are always changing.  For example, I have always worked best when things are in silos.  Time with the kids…silo…meaning when I am with them, I am with them and just focused on that.  Same with work.

However, many of us have faced a lot of changes over the last year and a half and a lot of our silos have changed, merged, and life is not as clean-cut as we maybe have enjoyed it in the past.  This makes finding the right systems more difficult and sticking to systems feeling impossible.

But, have hope!  I refuse to be defeated by the blessings that God has given me.

Juggling school stuff, social stuff, strengthening a marriage, taking care of my body, my home, managing my finances, and using my gifts at work are all blessings.  These things can cause stress, but I don’t think that these things or the stress of trying to do all these things and more are a cause to give up on systems thus giving up on balance and joy.

Tips From The Show

So how do we manage all the chaos?

  1. Get clear on what success looks like to you and how you define balance
  2. Focus on one system at a time.  The great thing about systems is that they can cover multi areas of life.  Start with something like your weekly prep.
  3. Put time aside for planning.  This is self-care.  Weekly, daily is most important.
  4. Don’t try to change your natural planning and operating patterns.  If you are a paper person, go with it.  If you prefer digital, go with it.  Once you get systems down, then you can improve on those systems and how you do them.  Just because you heard about how someone else does stuff doesn’t mean you have to do it.  Example:  Asana and Sunsama, google calendar vs. handwritten to-do lists, and a planner
  5. Give yourself grace.  It’s all an experiment in what works.  Know that what you are doing now will change when school starts.  It will change again when the weather changes, and when the holidays come.  It will always be changing so focus on the time you set aside and how you sort through the chaos.  The details will change but the foundations of the systems don’t have to.

Episode 288: Resetting Your Systems When Things Change

Episode 288: Resetting Your Systems When Things Change

As working moms, we all have times in our lives when the systems that we have created for balance get interrupted.  It could be for something small like a vacation, or it could be something bigger like a change in a career or even a huge schedule change during a season.  We will be covering both of these scenarios in this episode and giving you the steps you need to get back on track when one of these things happens to you!

Tips From The Show

Life happens and it interrupts your systems….

2 types of interruptions.

  1. Is a small hiccup..it’s like a vacation
  2. Is a shift in scheduling or priorities

So how do you get back on track?  Number one is easy.

  1. Brain dump list
  2. White space
  3. Get back to your systems starting with your morning routine and weekly routine

*Sometimes when we get a break we might get insight and you may want to make changes.  Get back into your routines and then make changes.  You don’t want the wheels to fall off and follow what is laid out in number 2

Number 2:  Example: Kids going back in the classroom, change in your work, kids out of school for the summer

  1. Pray.  The changes might be good, they might be the result of something that you don’t feel super positive about.  But here you are.  Use this opportunity to invite God in and pivot toward him as you recreate a structure that you will be moving forward with.
  2. Ideal calendar exercise (while you are doing this, think about your priorities for the season you are going in.)  Don’t get too hung up on this step.
  3. Redefine your key routines.  Morning routine, night routine, weekly planning routine, monthly planning routine.  When you redefine, strip everything away and think about the intention of that time.  What do you want to achieve with that time?  How can you support yourself proactively to use that time as you want to?
  4. Give yourself some grace and white space as you start to move in your new systems/structure.
  5. Keep God at the center of what you are doing and how you are doing it.  The bible tells us over and over to guard our hearts. Proverbs 4:23

Know that when we make changes, it can affect our attitudes, mental capacity, emotions and so much more.  Be on the watch for warning signs.  Don’t ignore when these things come up.  Us them as an opportunity to explore why it is affecting you and turn toward the Lord to help you grow through the process.  The more we know about how things like this affect us, the more we can be successful the next time we are experiencing a life change

Episode 260: Adjusting Your Priorities For Better Time Management and Happiness

Episode 260: Adjusting Your Priorities For Better Time Management and Happiness

We have all heard the advice “focus on your priorities”, but when everything is a priority, how are you ever suppose to be effective?  If you are overwhelmed by all the things pulling at you as a working mom, this episode is for you!

In this episode, we are diving into a few action items for you to do to reshape your priorities and regain your focus.

Action Items and Tips From the Show

Key topics on the budget breakdown:

  1. Brain dump list of all that is swirling around in your head.

  2. Why are things on this list?  Who put them there?

  3. When did that expectation or priority happen? Sometimes we set the bar really high at the start of a season but then when we start to live it out, we find out if it truly fits or not.  Just because something doesn’t fit, doesn’t mean its bad or you are bad.  It also doesn’t mean that it never fits.

  4. Maybe the end goal fits but the action to get there doesn’t.  If that is the case and you can’t let it go, ask yourself how else you might reach the goal?
