Tips From The Show

Here are Amber’s 3 tips to help you move forward and create the life you want:

1. Assessing your thoughts:  Understanding where you are and what you are feeling and what is missing.  There are a lot of emotions that can come up with this….it is easier said than done.  Don’t plan on this being a short process.  A journal might help you process and track your thoughts and emotions.  This is also where a coach is so helpful because they can guide you through the process.
2. Creating different thoughts.  What changes do you want to make?  What thoughts and beliefs do you need to get there?
3. Making those thoughts into actions.

Tips From The Show

In this episode, Ginny shares how her career in music led to burnout as she took the gift that God gave her and made it about something other than serving him.  We are all guilty of this from time to time.  She shares how God gave her grace and created a season of community and stillness to give her rest and bring her back to focus on him.

Ginny shares about the unique emotional connection that music creates when we seek closeness of the Lord in our lives.

She then walks us through the different kinds of songs that we find in scripture.

Tips From The Show

  1. Tip one: Don’t just talk about comparison being a “thief” of joy – see how it steals from you.

     — Data about how comparison will keep people from accomplishing goals

–Data about how comparison “stains” our brains and can, quite literally, make us feel rejection than never happened.

–Anecdotes about how comparison harms our relationships including marriages and friendships

  2. Tip two: See comparison the way the Bible sees comparison.

–We use the term comparison, but the Bible uses different words – envy, jealousy, covetousness. It’s not fun to talk about these sins – but if we view comparison as this serious – not only is there a cure for it – there’s hope to be free from it! God doesn’t want us to compare—not just because of how unique and special he made us – he doesn’t want us to compare because it’s a sin.

–When we treat comparison as a “pet” to be tamed instead of a “pest” to be eliminated –we stay stuck in it.

–Even our striving for the “IDEAL US” is a type of idolatry that can keep us ensnared in sin. God has certain expectations for us, yes. But, we add to those expectations with our own “demands” of who we should be. These ideals keep us constantly striving and never resting.

  3. Tip three: Practice gratitude.

–When we see our lives through the lens of grace and gratitude – we can feel more content and are better able to stop comparing.

–A daily gratitude habit has tremendous benefits – Paralyzed accident victims that did a daily gratitude journal reported more joy than those who have won the lottery!

–Make saying “thank you God” a constant habit—thank him for the close parking space, thank him for the sunshine – thank him for all things, big and small, all day long and watch how your demeanor changes.

  4. Tip Four: Watch What You Watch

–Know your “contentment” and “comparison” triggers. If watching HGTV makes you hate your home, cut it out. If those before and after stories or fitness models on Instagram make you feel like your body isn’t enough – stop following them. Psalms 119:37 says, “Turn my eyes from worthless things.”

–Netflix to Novels – all of these things can stir up a desire for a fantasy life and lead us to that idolatry of idealism. We have to stay plugged into truth.

Episode 285: Finding Your Balance In The Bible Part One

Episode 285: Finding Your Balance In The Bible Part One

When we talk about life balance, if it’s possible, and how we define it….there is a background to it.  What we teach at Your Life Rocks is biblically-based.  It’s about being obedient to the word of God.  When we are in alignment with his word, chaos has no standing.

When we talk about balance, or setting goals, the aim is not perfection.  The aim is obedience.  Every time.  It’s not about us, it’s about him.  It’s when we allow ourselves to be less than in any area of life that we are making it about us or about our flesh.  In this two-part series, we are going to the Bible to see what it says about balance and about the different areas of life (yes, all 8 are in the Bible).

Tips From The Show

In part one of this two-part series, we are laying the groundwork for defining balance from a Biblical perspective.  We are also diving into 4 of the 8 areas of life.  In part two, we will go into the other 4.  To help you on your journey to see what God has to say about these areas, I have included a Bible verse for each area as a place to get you started.  Want to go deeper?  I have created a Bible study designed to get you in the word of God as work in each area of life.  These areas are faith, marriage, parenting, career, home, health, finances, and friends and fun.  You can purchase the digital Bible study, Setting Goals in God’s Will by clicking here.  Or you can get it inside the Life Balance Membership.

Faith: Mark 5:25-34
